I grew up in Sydney, Australia and moved to the Bay Area in 1997 after graduating from the University of Wollongong. I didn’t even know Oakland existed when I first moved to the Bay Area. However, that’s where I have lived for 10 years, with a brief 3 year break in New Jersey doing my master’s degree at Princeton Seminary. In that time, I have served as pastor to university students at UC Berkeley. My journey to Oakland was not planned, so I know it is God who led me here. And I am so glad He did.

I met my wonderful wife, Robin here. And we adopted our girls from here – Aliah and Malia. I’m grateful to God that he has called us to serve this city. My call to plant a church is best expressed by the words of Isaiah – Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low…And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people will see it together… That’s my hope – that God will bring the hills down and raise up the valleys so people can see the goodness of God more clearly.

We are people who don’t belong together gathered around Jesus for the sake of those who don’t belong.
