Sheltering In Place Together

Resources and Connections at OCC during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

Our entire community is sheltering in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. But we are still the church. Even though we can’t meet together in person, our church will continue to gather, worship, support each other, pray and care for our community. This can be a trying time, but we as a church are committed to getting through it together. This page gives you all the links to our remote community and how you can get plugged in.

Look through the calendar, events and tools to connect together. You can listen to our most recent sermon here.

MAUNDY THURSDAY-  6:00pm, April 9th via Zoom

This is the celebration of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, demonstrating true service and friendship in the Kingdom of God. Debbie will lead a Bible lesson and reflection in the “Godly Play” manner that our young children experience each Sunday. We will honor the ways we have served one another during this Shelter-at-Home season.

We have shifted the Seven Last Words service to a recorded podcast that will take you on a guided journey through the grief, betrayal, and pain of Jesus’s saving death. The podcast will be shared and posted on the website at 12pm. At 6:30 pm, we will gather on Zoom for an individual and collective lament for the deaths, fear, and separations of our current moment in time.

Daily podcast, encouragement + tools and tips for what to do during social distancing.

Starting next week, Riana and Josh will be hosting a daily podcast for the OCC community in exile, along with the occasional guest to talk through the state of the world, theology, Bible and tips for staying sane. You can subscribe here for our podcast feed. You can find our sermon archive here as well.

We invited the church to a shared practice before we knew that we wouldn’t be gathering together for a while. Sign up here to receive daily devotionals written by members of the OCC’s community in your inbox.

David and the worship team have created a playlist of some of OCC’s favorite worship songs. Use the songs for a praise party, encouragement while working from home, or to relax at the end of the day.

Connect to a roster of support and to give to those in need.

Our Greater than One fund is used for immediate needs. We know that in the coming weeks and months, the needs will be great for those affected by COVID-19. Many are losing income. Housing is at risk. Medical bills are high. The deacons have requested special giving to support this fund for the needs we anticipate will come. Give to the Deacons Fund here.

Many are asking how they can help our unhoused and vulnerable community right now. We are working with East Oakland Collective to do that. Right now, the plans we are working on involve calling caterers and restaurants to see if they are able to donate food or to order meals for folks, picking up any commercial food donations/orders and bringing it to EOC/coordinating delivery to curbsides. We don’t have all the details on this yet, but if you think you might be able to help in one of these ways, email Josh. You can donate to EOC here or go to their amazon wishlist here. You can also look out for EOC calls to action on their Facebook page.

We anticipate the needs in our church community will increase over the next few months. Grocery shopping, mental health check-ins, deliveries – we’re going to need to support each other. We are creating a database of people’s availability and resources. Please complete the form below.

There will be NoSunday services through March 29,2020.

Please leave your email so we can reach out to you with more news and updates
